Debbie & Kian come back home with two golds at British student championship.

2015 and 2016 Team Ealing London Youth Games Weightlifting Champions, Kian Panjavi and Deborah Alawode of Stars For The Future Weightlifting Club, both won Gold medals at the British University and Colleges (BUCs) Weightlifting Championships held at St Mary’s University in Twickenham on 21st and 22nd April 2018.

This is after the Ealing-raised youngsters won Silver medals at BUCs last year. Kian, representing Brunel University, lifted a 105kg Snatch and 125kg clean and jerk, despite being injured, whilst Deborah, representing University College London, lifted 71kg in the snatch and a 93kg clean and jerk to take the title. Deborah and Kian are both training hard towards representing Great Britain at the World University Games in 2019.

Their teammates, Louise Blair and Kerensky Fernandes, lifted extremely well, with Louise lifting personal bests of 50kg in the snatch and 70kg in the clean and jerk in her first national competition, and Kerensky lifting 58kg and 71kg in the snatch and clean and jerk respectively to finish in 5th place in a competitive group. Steve Bestman lost his silver medal by being late at the weigh-in.

The lifters send their gratitude to their Head Coach, Kazem Panjavi, for his continued support and dedication to their progress, and also to the club secretary, Nicky Yudin, for coming down to the venue to support them.
